HDAN Commends Buhari/Osinbajo N2m Social Housing Scheme Program

Nigerians should only vote candidate that has interest in providing affordable housing in the coming 2023 presidential election, the Housing Development Advocacy Organization in Nigeria (HDAN) has said.

This is as HDAN commends President Muhammadu Buhari/Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s administration N2million social housing program for low income earners.

The 2million naira houses for the low income earners is in the national social housing program ( NSHP) of the federal government. The project is under the supervision of family homes funds and we have been assured that in the next few weeks social housing projects will be in many estates.

HDAN Executive Director, Festus Adebayo said Vice President Osinbajo who is been touted by some groups for the coveted position has demonstrated enough capacity in this direction.

Osinbajo is yet to declare his interest for the position.

Adebayo in an interview with Africa Housing News in Abuja.

He stressed that it’s time for Nigerians to look out for only candidate that has demonstrated interest in affordable housing.

“Every politician from local government to federal level who want to win election in 2023 must show Nigerian his housing agenda,” he added.

He explained further that the economic importance of this, is for citizens to set a parameter for Candidates vying for elective positions in the 2023 election.

“It was the opposite of grand but it was my first true home of my own and I was mightily proud. A man is not a man until he has a house of his own.”

Adebayo who underscores the importance of the housing sector in economic growth and development of a nation urged Nigerians to take seriously his candid advice.

He further explained that housing is an indicator of a family’s standard of living or society.

The provision of decent housing, he added, “will impact the well-being of the people, physical and mental health as well as the environment.”

The HDAN Boss recalled the contributions of the housing sector in the socio-economic growth and development through its impact on major macroeconomic indicators such as employment, savings, investment and labour and productivity.

He stressed that Nigerians should use their mandate to demand for affordable housing for all and not sell their vote for cash and kind like foodstuffs which has ephemeral value.

He also called for reorientation of minds if the country is to get it right in 2023, saying

Nigerians should vote for leaders who have vision and passion to improve the wellbeing of the common man, especially leaders who will provide basic necessities like housing even for the homeless on the streets.
